Semi-Precious Stones
Gemstones are for the most part of minerals, precious stones that are extracted from mines. Others are organic such as coral, amber, abalone, pearls … Only stones considered as precious are the diamond, the ruby, the emerald and the sapphire. The other stones are called "fine stones". It is those who are used in our creations but also in the jewels which we import from Mexico.

Some of these gemstones are left in a raw state. Others are cut and/or polish to give them a more attractive aspect.

The Stones Used
Amethyst is a variety of purple quartz of clear color. Its name comes from the greek and means " which protects from the drunkenness ". In the Middle Ages, it became the stone of the cardinals and the bishops. It results essentially from South America and from Madagascar.
Le Coral : Corals result mainly from the Mediterranean Sea (coasts of Algeria and Tunisia) and are very appreciated for the manufacturing of jewels
Jade is a stone very appreciated from Chinese since millenniums. They put a jade piece in the foundations of the houses to protect from the lightning. It would also look after renal diseases (according to formers and legends).
Lapis-lazuli : from light blue Crystal to dark blue, it consisted essentially of lazurite (or ultramarine). Stone of an attractive blue of azure or ultramarine decorated with touches of yellow. It is a rock considered as protecting from the evil the one who wears it. It is dregs in the cult of the Egyptian goddess Isis. The lapis lazuli was often used in powder by the most illustrious painters for its incomparable blue. The main fields are situated on the slopes of Vesuvius, on the banks of the lake Baikal, in the canyon of Colorado and in the famous field of Sar e blood, in Afghanistan.
Malachite : Natural brass carbonate, this stone is of an iridiscent green. Formerly, this mineral was exploited in the fields of Ural and Egypt, it comes at present from Australia, Zaire and Arizona. The most beautiful malachites in France arise from Chessy (Rhone). The malachite is a fragile stone, it is sensitive to acids and to ammonia waters. It would allow to avert the danger and the disease for the one who wears it.
Mother-of-pearl is of organic origin. Of color chromatic allo, mother-of-pearl is the most internal layer of the shell of certain mollusks of fresh water. It is appreciated for its iridescence.
Obsidian : Volcanic glassy rock grey dark or black. It is considered as ruler against the most terrible nightmares.
Onyx : Variety of agate, this stone is characterized by black and white layers or red-brown, acid silicique.
Turquoise : Of pale blue color to green, this stone is used as gemstone since the Antiquity. The main fields are situated in Tibet, Iran, Uzbekistan, Poland, Chile and in the United States. From old French word " turcois " (Turkey), because the business of stones passed in transit for a long time by Turkey. Turquoise was frequently used, in America, by the Indians hopis and navajos for the preparation of the tribal jewels.
Moon Stone : The moonstone appears in diverse colors. It goes from transparent to grey, brown, yellow, green or even pink. These stones come mainly from Sri Lanka, Madagascar and South of India.
Pink Quartz : The color of the quartz can go from transparent to translucent and is called « pink quartz ». Transparent Pink Quartz is rare and it is, usually so pale colored that you need to find a big piece of it to notifie its color. The pink quartz seems to have the medicinal property to heal wounds (according to legends).
Tiger Eye : The « tiger eye » quartz contains some brownish iron which gives it a yellow gilded color. Stones of this variety have, on surface, small spokes of light which evokes the eye of this feline that is the tiger. Its most important field is in South Africa. We also find there in the West of Australia, in Burma (Myanmar), in India and in the United States (California).
