William Spratling was most known under the name of "Father of Mexican Silver". Born in 1900 in New York, in the United States, William Spratling, architect, writer and teacher, visit Mexico for the first time in 1926. He will return to it regularly the next summers to settle down there definitively in 1929.

He fell under the charm of a small village perched in the mountains of the South West of Mexico. Rich for its silvermines, the village quickly develops and opens to the world thanks to the talent and to the tenacity of this fascinated American. |

He taught the craftsmen the craft rudiments of manufacturing jewels and the use of everything which offers their ground. He knew how to give a chance to this village today recognized to shelter most great masters jewelers of Mexico there: Héctor Aguilar, Antonio Castillo, Salvador Teran… William Spratling died on August 7th, 1967, further to a car accident. |
